Air Purifier Shopping: Don’t Look at the Gimmicks

2024-03-11 09:52:22

First off, if you’re searching for the best air purifiers to declutter and cleanse your indoor air, I'm pretty sure the variety of options available in the market can be quite overwhelming. There are air purifiers that have a multitude of promising attachments and advanced technologies including, ionisers, UV light or ozone generators that allow these air purifiers to operate and kill germs. But the question is, do these air purifiers do what they advertise or is it all a scam?

Experts claim that the most crucial aspect that one should focus on while selecting an air purifier is its CADR rating which means Clean Air Delivery Rate. This is a value that indicates how fast and how well an air cleaner can remove dust, smoke or pollen from the air. The CADR rating is relatively higher for air purifiers with better efficiency in air cleansing.

A different aspect that needs to be taken into account is the type of filter used within the air purifier. It seems that the more widely adopted and effective filter is the HEPA filter which extends for High Efficiency Particulate Air. This filter is able to trap 99.97 percent of particles which are 0.3 microns and larger, this includes viruses and bacteria. Other types of filters which may be included with the air purifier are activated charcoal filters which work to remove unpleasant smells as well as gases from the air.

On the other hand, in some other air purifiers, particle-control technologies are used that are unproven in terms of safety and effectiveness for human health. For example, ionizers release negative ions that combine with airborne particles making them heavy and thus easier to filter. But in combination, it can also produce ozone which is known to disturb an individual’s lungs, worsens asthma, and other diseases. Ultraviolet light, aimed at malfunctioning elements in the device can emit too as it exposes germs to the radiation and UV light handles only the filter's surface and not air that passes through it. As for ozone generators they are purposely looking to create ozone in order to replace smashing light bulbs to prevent a bad smell and remove tiny dirt particles but they are the most commonly used as they are environmentally destructive.

So, when buying an air purifier, don’t be fooled by the gimmicks. Focus instead on the CADR rating and the type of filters available, and select an model that fits your room and other requirements. An air purifier that is effective can help enhance one’s health and comfort by filtering particular substances and allergens present in the air without releasing any harmful by-products.
